Peter Drucker on Self-Management

In a few hundred years...it is likely that the most important event historians will see is not technology, not the Internet, not e-commerce. It is an unprecedented change in the human condition.

For the first time...rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the first time, they will have to manage themselves. And society is totally unprepared for it."
-Peter Drucker, "Managing Knowledge   Means Managing Oneself"

Avoiding Assessment Mistakes #2 (Validity)
Self Management GroupIn our last issue we talked about the difference between screening tools and  selection tools and the importance of using the right tool in your selection process. In this issue we will discuss validation and why it is important to use a statistically valid tool. Download full article, Assessing the Assessors: Choosing the Right Recruiting, Screening & Selection Tool for your Business

It is now common practice to use third party
assessment tools in the screening, selection and development of top performers.

Validated assessment tools accurately predict performance and retention.  They aid in succession planning, assist in tracking the effectiveness and ROI of strategic initiatives and even help a company to effectively allocate training and development resources. A non-validated tool on the other hand, is limited to general norms and anecdotal comparisons and can not be used as part of the selection process.

If you are using an assessment tool, make sure it can be validated. Conducting annual validation studies will help you to make sure that the tool you are using is accurately predicting performance and retention and is making a positive contribution to your selection, coaching, training and succession planning processes.
